Carmen was born and raised in Indiana, but has lived in the South since 1962. She has served in full-time ministry for 39 years, the last 18 of which have been at Beach UMC. Other churches served were in Alabama and Georgia. She has a MDiv degree and a Master's degree in Church Music (organ specialty). Carmen has been married to Travis for 33 years. They have three grown children, one granddaughter, and a grandson "on the way".

As Discipleship Pastor, Carmen does some preaching, lots of teaching, and works with Stephen Ministry, Celebrate Recovery and other recovery ministries, discipleship and family ministries, missions, and volunteer ministry. Her greatest passion in ministry is being used by God to open opportunities for persons to come into a relationship with Jesus Christ, grow in their discipleship, serve God and become empowered to share their faith stories in order to lead others to Christ.

Greatest life challenge: Unexpectedly becoming totally blind during back surgery in June 2001. Carmen acquired a guide dog, Mr. Earl, in 2003 which has enabled her to be much more independent. Through technology, God's grace, and help from family and friends, there isn't much she can't do except drive the car.

Favorite vacation places: Colorado Rockies, North Carolina mountains, cruise ships

Favorite hobbies: Playing the organ and piano, cooking

Favorite food: Chocolate, chocolate, and chocolate! Fruits and specialty salads
